Silent Sunday: The Butcher Shop

“A tribute to the old world European boucheries, The Butcher Shop is both a neighborhood wine bar and a full service butcher shop. Inspired by chef-owner Barbara Lynch’s travels throughout France and Italy, The Butcher Shop is the perfect place to have a glass of wine along with a small bite or to linger over a meal.

In the back of the dining room, glass-front cases are stocked with house-made links of sausages and hot dogs, jars of rich demi-glace, slabs of foie gras, and exquisitely marbled cuts of local beef along with freshly prepared dishes from the kitchen. On the butcher block is an ever-changing selection of accoutrements which might include bottles of a favorite olive oil and freshly baked loaves of bread. A butcher is on hand daily to help select the perfect cut of meat, game or poultry and to offer at home cooking tips.” (from The Butcher Shop website)

Wonderful pictures, Brian! Although I have to say, the thought of duck liver mousse kind of grosses me out. Hmm. Interesting, but a tad gross to me.

MMnn. . . I loves me some vegetarians, especially when they blog about meat.

Si Dios no quiere que comer animales, ¿por qué ellos hacen de la carne?

Lora @cakeduchessFebruary 27, 2011 - 9:41 am

As close to Italy as you can get…wow! I wish there was a place like that here near me. I love the retro feel to some of those photos. GORGEOUS!!!!!!I have to disagree with Kim-duck liver mousse must be amazing. Guess it’s an acquired taste;)

joanneFebruary 27, 2011 - 9:53 am

Haha I highly expect that this is the most meat I shall ever see on your blog. Beautiful photos though.

foodwanderingsFebruary 27, 2011 - 10:24 am

What a cool place Brian, thanks for sharing. We have nothing even close to this where I live. :(

SteffanyFFebruary 27, 2011 - 12:39 pm

Oh man, I went to The Butcher Shop when my parents were in town about two weeks ago and it CHANGED MY LIFE. I am never in that area of town because I live all the way out in Brighton, but it turns out the South End kind of rocks my socks off.

SaraFebruary 27, 2011 - 12:42 pm

Beautiful Brian! A snapshop at European/East coast life that I truly love!

TimFebruary 27, 2011 - 2:28 pm

These are some fantastic photos. All of them are exceptional but I really do like the photo taken from inside, looking out the window with the words of the business in reverse.
Keep posting, you are a true artist!

Tim

Beautiful atmospheric pics, of course, but my mind drifts to a practical point. Living in Czech Republic I visit the butcher often and there is an unmistakable aroma that, while not unpleasent in itself, I would have a hard time hanging out with a glass of vino in. Great idea, the wine bar part, just curious if it works out in practice.

Good point, Andrew. There’s something irresistible about a pile of meat. I kill my own and I love it. Now don’t think I am a freak or something. I just hunt and farm. We also sell beef and when we show it people, they literally go into a frenzy. I’ve seen it happen. I believe our mostly pescaterian friend Brian here had the same experience!

Not a place I expected you to post about and those photos of MEAT are fabulous. Guess you don’t have to eat it to take great pics of it right?

Looks like an amazing place…makes me want to schedule another trip to Boston. Soon.

Brian,

A picture tells the tale, and in the case it’s a delicious one. Lovely images, beautiful butcher shop and another great post. Great Silent Sunday edition!

Brian, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful images with us. I wish we had a butcher shop like this close to home, it would be a joy to shop in.
I hope you have had a wonderful weekend my friend.

Kulsum at JourneyKitchenFebruary 28, 2011 - 2:42 am

Nothing beats good meat and my man would agree on that too. We have the Butcher shop here in Kuwait as well but I didn’t end up enjoying my experience so much as I expected, but I have heard all good things about it worldwide!

anhsfoodblogFebruary 28, 2011 - 8:02 am

AMAZING! The photos tell a story. I wish I could visit this butcher and experienced all the goodies there!

Jason @ Shutter&SauteFebruary 28, 2011 - 9:15 am
