Of the many stops that we made on our trip in Columbus, Ohio, it was the abundance of microbreweries and distilleries that surprised me the most.  One of the more prominent establishments in the area is Middle West Spirits, which produces the stellar OYO vodka and whiskey.  Their vodka is less of that ethanol, burning experience one finds in the bigger brands and is, instead, smooth and dynamic, the flavor a delicious blend of custard and vanilla.

The folks at Middle West Spirits know what they’re doing.  The description on their website says it all:

“Set in the heart of Ohio, Middle West Spirits is a micro-distillery that draws inspiration from its surroundings. We are mindful of the immense resources we have nearby, and make every effort to use them. And we’re students of time-tested distilling traditions – proud to use the first copper still of its kind in North America, from a company that’s been making the gold standard for nearly 200 years.

We also recognize the vibrant community around us, and do our part to support local emerging artists who share a strong commitment to their craft.”

I came home with a bottle of their whiskey and will be sure to savor every last drop.

Disclaimer: This Silent Sunday is a part of a series of posts that I will be doing on restaurants, shops, distilleries and breweries in the Columbus, Ohio, area.  I was recently invited to take part in an all-expense paid tour of the city that was organized by Experience Columbus and Columbus Food Adventures.  The views on my blog are my own and in no way was I monetarily compensated for writing this entry.
