Raspberry Crumb Bars

I used to be really big into Valentine’s Day.  Giving gifts, chocolates, flowers, cards (yeah… not just one but two, maybe three).  I’d make dinner reservations at expensive restaurants and plan out a night of activities. Over the years, though, I’ve toned it down a bit.  Eric and I don’t exchange cards.  We don’t buy each other presents or flowers.  There are no chocolate-covered strawberries.  Instead we stay at home, eat lobster and drink champagne, followed by a decadent dessert (like these raspberry bars that we’re obsessed with… which contain three sticks of butter).  We spend the rest of the evening curled up on the couch with Maki, the three of us wrapped up in blankets.  It may seem boring to some, but I want nothing more than a little quiet time with the man that I love.

Not boring at all. In fact, it sounds completely perfect. And these raspberry bars would *definitely* be the perfect ending.ReplyCancel

I agree, it isn’t boring at all. Staying at home with good food, wine and the significant other is perfect in my eyes. Especially if there’s a fab dessert like this one!ReplyCancel

I have the same idea of happiness with Grant on Valentine’s Day (night) — cozy home surroundings, drinks, great food and, of course, an indulgent dessert. I’m on a fruit dessert kick right now, and these look amazing! xoReplyCancel

I’m with you and Eric, I like to keep it low-key as well and let the amateurs go out and crash all of the restaurants and flower stores. But, I do like to bake a little something special for my man with my little girl. Love the new site header, lovely simplicity. Just like you.ReplyCancel

3 sticks of butter? you have my attention…

while Jason and I are still in the “really big into Valentines Day…” even after 8 years, I can appreciate your quiet at home version as well.

These bars sound so good–even with the three sticks of butter! Maybe especially with the three sticks of butter, actually. :) And I’m definitely with you on the low-key Valentine’s Day. Who wants to battle all the other restaurant daters? Not me.ReplyCancel

  • Jen @ My Kitchen AddictionFebruary 11, 2013 - 2:43 pm

I can relate on having a toned-down Valentines Day. We usually still exchange cards, but that’s about it. I’m looking forward to a nice quiet evening at home with plenty of baby snuggles and some good food. And, of course, a glass of wine once baby is in bed :) Perhaps I’ll have to make some of these bars… Delish!ReplyCancel

We don’t go out on Valentine Day, too many people in restaurants. We like to stay home and enjoy our day. But this year I will be alone, my husband will be gone. Enjoy Valentine Day!!!ReplyCancel

I’m with you – I’d much rather be at home snuggled up on the couch with my guy and enjoy a really simple, but good meal at home. Your Raspberry Crumb Bars look fantastic!ReplyCancel

I’m so glad my man isn’t into the whole elaborate Valentine’s Day craziness. Last year, I cooked him dinner at home and he made me some chocolates :) This year I’ll be cooking dinner at home again. If I didn’t already have a specific dessert planned, I’d totally make these. I’ll save this recipe for another occasion :)ReplyCancel

  • Jeanne @ CooksisterFebruary 13, 2013 - 6:58 am

Oh yeah… three sticks of butter. My kinda bars ;o) I love that you have also gone for a darker, crimson dessert for valentine’s week rather than the pink froth that seems to be everywhere. I’ve also toned down my Valentine’s excesses over the years… but part of me does miss those teenage days of waiting for the postman and hoping there will be a handwritten envelope for me 😉ReplyCancel

I’m not sure into V-Day either but this year The.Boy and I are going out tonight (the 13th) to one of my favorite farm-to-table restaurants and then tonight we’re staying in and I’m cooking. These bars would be the perfect ending to a great homemade meal!ReplyCancel

Oh, well, you know that JP and I are just like you guys, dog included! That is how we prefer celebrating any holiday. Oh well i will admit he did ask me if I wanted to go to a lovely restaurant nearby for V Day and I told him I prefered staying cozy at home. Too bad I didn’t have these amazing raspberry bars! Wow! I have to make these. I have a recipe for cherry crumb bars I’ve been meaning to make for about 10 years (I kid you not). Yours are stunning!ReplyCancel
