I’m not a snob about many things, but pizza is one of them. As someone who grew up in New Jersey, I ate pizza on a weekly basis, which allowed me to taste my fair share of gourmet (and not so gourmet) slices. I hadn’t found that gem in Boston, until I came across the woodfire pies at Area Four in Cambridge. These guys have one hell of a crust recipe and they top their pizzas with local, seasonal ingredients. When I was there, they also had the most fantastic squid salad. I swear, I could eat it every day for the rest of my life.
These photos were taken for an article I wrote for Boston Magazine’s food blog, The Chowder. You can read the article here.

I’ve heard so many good things about Area Four pizza and I only regret that I left MIT before they opened! Guess I’ll have to come back and visit. Your photos are stunning, as usual!
Sending this to my NYC friends who are now living in Boston that I told you about! xxSAS
Your pictures are wonderful and it looks like a fantastic place to get pizza!
Great article, by the way. I popped on over to take a peak!

That pizza looks amazing Brian! Next time I head your way, I know where I’m going to eat.
Looks like a great spot! I’ve never been to Boston. That needs to change~!
Oh my! This makes me want to hop on a plane for Boston just to visit! I’ll definitely keep this on my must-visit list for when we are in Boston again.
I’ve never had a pizza as gorgeous and perfect as that one. I’ll have to remember this and stop by there sometime in the future.
Honey! This looks beyond delicious. I’m a pizza snob too, and I’m drooling (at breakfast!) Thank you for sharing! I hope you have a beautiful and happy Monday!
Yes! I’ve yet to find a regular pizza shop to order pizza from here in Utah! Yay for Jersey Pride!
Beautiful pics – passing this along to my sister-in-law who lives up in the Boston area.
I’ve only been to Area Four once, for lunch, but didn’t get to try the pizza. I’ve heard so many great things, including your review! I’m definitely making plans to get back there soon

Area Four also has a fantastic almond croissant, you could probably write an entire post just on the almond filling.
Wowzas! Looks like I need to head south to Boston – haven’t been in quite some time, but I’m definitely up for a foodie weekend!
Oh my gosh, yum! Gorgeous images, but that tight pizza image? Amazing! It looks amazing, and I’d love to visit that spot someday. I love all of the action in your photos, as always Brian. xo
Your photos are exceptional, Brian! Everything looks and sounds delicious.
I am now craving some pizza… And a trip to Boston. I absolutely must look up Area Four the next time I make it up that way. Loved your photos!
I don’t think Area Four existed when I lived in Cambridge. What a bummer! Those pizzas look to-die-for.
Area Four it’s great, I was there last week and I loved it!
Brian this completely evokes the ‘picture worth a 1000 words’ clause. NO words are needed to accompany these photos. I love their wood stamped with their name. The cabbage (?) salad looks incredible. Thanks for the ‘ride along’. A benchmark for any in your area for future dining.
Brian
what a great photo essay on Area 4, you really did an outstanding job capturing those delicious dishes!
I know I can always count on living vicariously though your beautiful imagery!
Thanks for taking me to lunch with you!
Dennis
